Aaron Long was judged to have interfered with Atlanta goalkeeper Brad Guzan on his second-chance header. Atlanta United are headed to the MLS Cup, advancing past the New York Red Bulls 3-1 on aggregate despite losing the second leg 1-0 on Thursday night.
Following a 3-0 win at home in the first leg, Atlanta knew anything but a monumental collapse would see the second-year club into MLS' showcase final.
The Red Bulls poured forward in search of goals, but Atlanta defended well throughout the 90 minutes with offensive stars like Miguel Almiron regularly making long runs back to help in defense.
